RNA Debut Novel Winner Joins Avon

Avon Books sign Kate Field, winner of the RNA’s Joan Hessayon Award for new writers in 2017

Katie Loughnane acquired World All Language rights to The Man I Fell in Love With and one further book from Kate Field, winner of the RNA’s Joan Hessayon Award for new writers in 2017 for her debut novel The Magic of Ramblings.

The Man I Fell in Love With is a heart-warming women’s fiction novel with a difference. When Mary Black’s husband of twenty years leaves her for another man, her world is turned upside down. And as she tries to reshape her future, the past continues to unravel, exposing secrets and lies that rewrite the story of her life and leave her questioning where her loyalties should lie. Can Mary finally put herself first and take a chance that could change everything? Because sometimes, life only really begins at the end of your comfort zone…

Katie Loughnane, Editor at Avon said: ‘I’m delighted to have tempted Kate over to join the Avon list. I fell head-over-heels for this novel from the very first pages and I was up on my feet rooting for the characters by the end. Kate is a brilliant writer and The Man I Fell in Love With is a funny, uplifting story of sliding doors, missed opportunities and finding happiness where you least expect it – for Mary’s husband as a newly out gay man and, of course, for Mary herself. It’s the UK’s answer to the much-loved Grace and Frankie!’

Kate Field said: ‘Avon publish some of my favourite authors and I’m thrilled to be joining them. I’m delighted to be part of such a supportive and enthusiastic team, who love the story of Mary Black as much as I do.’

The Man I Fell in Love With will publish in ebook first, in February 2019. Kate Field writes contemporary women’s fiction, mainly set in her favourite county of Lancashire where she lives on the edge of the moors with her husband, daughter and cat. When not writing or reading, Kate enjoys walking in the countryside, Pilates, visiting historic houses and gardens and volunteering in her village community library.
